drone surveys, flood risk assessment, comms, networks & data infrastructure for rural premises
About mi2Dm
Coordinates are very important in building, geography, farming, mapping, physics, mathematics, geodesy, cartography, surveying, navigation and astronomy. As someone once said, "The nice thing about standards is that you have so many to choose from; furthermore, if you do not like any of them, you can just wait for next year's model." The fields of IT and GIS are prime examples of this dictum. I'm passionate about maps, technology and surveying. I have rolled out my own fibre-optic and wireless networks over and under the family farm and linked nearby dwellings. Getting connections in rural locations can be complex and I can help navigate the business of finding the best combination of speed, price and resilience utilising the mix of technologies available including long-range-Wi-Fi, 4G/5G, public/private fibre, air2air-μwave, 2nd-gen satellite, community hubs, etc. How to make data infrastructure resilient in sheds, dusty environments or outdoors, how to remotely monitor critical machinery, how to backup data and power as we have to be able to function without the 'cloud' and during a power cut. I have experience of this too. Mobile coverage is a perpetual bugbear and there are solutions from boosters to Wi-Fi assistance and VoIP to overcome this. Cameras help us see who is on site and the right drone can perform surveys of buildings, fields and forests. I have a Cisco certification, a BSc in Astrophysics and a 1st class MEng in Computer Science with Electronic Engineering. I am not allied to any particular vendor(s) as I find it is best to be neutral in one's advice, and the precise operating system and software best suited to the situation comes second after the network & hardware infrastructure. I'm based in West Mids / Welsh Marches - feel free to drop me a line.
